The chip contains five copper Ethernet ports with integrated Gigabit PHY circuits, fully compliant with IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab and IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet standards. Up to 96 ACL rule entries are configurable to implement packet filtering, traffic redirection, priority marking and access control based on layer 2, layer 3 and layer 4 packet information. 8-level hardware QoS queuing mechanism classifies data priority according to port identifier, 802.1p tag and DSCP field to guarantee low latency transmission for voice and video services. Additional built-in features include port mirroring, ingress and egress bandwidth rate limiting, spanning tree protocol to prevent layer 2 loops, and cable diagnostic function to detect cable short, open and length issues. System parameters can be loaded automatically from external EEPROM after power-up, and register configuration and status reading can be realized via SMI, MIIM and SPI host management interfaces.
Power Supply and Clock Design
The device uses 3.3V as main I/O power supply, and internal embedded LDO generates dedicated core voltage to simplify peripheral power circuit layout. Only a single external 25MHz passive crystal oscillator is required as system reference clock. Multiple power saving modes are designed to cut power consumption when ports are disconnected or stay in idle state. Programmable LED pins are assigned for each port to indicate link status, connection speed and data activity.
