Part Number Definition
MAX96717 is an automotive GMSL2 video serializer that converts MIPI CSI-2 input into GMSL2 serial data output. GTJ/VY refers to AEC-Q100 Grade 2 automotive temperature specification. The suffix T denotes lead-free tape-and-reel packaging for high-volume automated SMT production. The component is packaged in a 32-pin 5mm×5mm exposed pad side-wettable TQFN package with 0.5mm pin pitch.
Core Electrical Performance Parameters
Developed by Maxim Integrated, now part of Analog Devices, this SerDes IC is tailored for long-distance automotive camera video transmission. It receives 4-lane MIPI CSI-2 D-PHY video streams from automotive image sensors, serializes the data and transmits signals through a single coaxial cable or shielded twisted pair cable following the GMSL2 protocol.
Forward channel data rate can be set to 3Gbps or 6Gbps for video payload delivery. The bidirectional backward control channel provides 187.5Mbps bandwidth, enabling duplex communication over one cable without additional wiring.
Multiple independent power domains are integrated: core digital supply ranges from 0.95V to 1.26V, analog auxiliary supply ranges from 1.7V to 1.9V, IO supply ranges from 1.7V to 3.6V, compatible with various standard automotive power rails.
On-chip integrated functions include dual I²C and UART pass-through interfaces, SPI tunneling channels and programmable general-purpose input/output pins, which allow remote configuration of image sensors and peripheral devices through the serial link. An 8-bit analog-to-digital converter, internal temperature sensor and comprehensive power-on self-test circuits are embedded to realize system fault detection and health monitoring. Crystal-free clock operation based on reference-over-reverse technology is supported, which outputs reference clock signals to drive external image sensors and removes discrete crystal components. Spread-spectrum clock modulation is optional to lower electromagnetic emissions and meet CISPR 25 automotive EMI standards easily.
Users can configure the chip via local I²C and UART ports, or conduct remote control through the matched deserializer across the GMSL2 link. The device maintains stable signal transmission over automotive-grade cables and features strong immunity to electromagnetic interference inside vehicles.
Packaging and Assembly Specifications
The 5mm × 5mm 32-pin side-wettable TQFN package is equipped with an exposed thermal pad. Side wettable edges facilitate visual solder joint inspection after reflow soldering to satisfy automotive manufacturing quality demands. The central exposed pad delivers efficient thermal dissipation to control junction temperature rise during continuous operation.
Moisture Sensitivity Level is MSL1, with no time limit for reflow soldering after vacuum package opening. Standard tape-and-reel packaging is adopted to fit automatic pick-and-place equipment for mass automotive electronics assembly.
Environmental and Compliance Standards
The operating temperature range covers -40°C to +105°C. The device is certified to AEC-Q100 Grade 2 automotive reliability standard, capable of stable long-term operation inside vehicle cabins, chassis and other harsh automotive environments with wide temperature swings.
Fabricated with lead-free materials, it complies with RoHS and REACH environmental regulations. High integration reduces the quantity of peripheral discrete components, simplifies the circuit layout of automotive camera front ends and shortens the development period of ADAS vision systems.
