CP2103 stands for the upgraded USB-to-UART bridge chip model with extended GPIO functions. GM indicates single loose-piece 28-pin QFN packaging. GMR refers to tape-and-reel packaging for automatic SMT placement on production lines.
Core Function and Electrical Specifications
The chip embeds complete USB transceiver, internal oscillator circuit and power-on reset module, requiring no external crystal oscillator and matching resistors for USB circuits. It carries 1024-byte user programmable EEPROM, which can be written with customized VID, PID, product information and serial number through USB channel during production. UART interface supports baud rate up to 2Mbps, equipped with 640-byte transmit FIFO buffer and 576-byte receive FIFO buffer, compatible with hardware flow control and software XON/XOFF handshake protocol. Full set of modem control signal pins are reserved for traditional serial equipment docking. Compared with CP2102, four independent 3.3V logic GPIO pins are added for external indicator lamp driving, switch input and simple peripheral control. Operating supply voltage ranges from 3.0V to 3.6V. Suspend low-power mode is built in to cut power consumption for battery-powered portable devices. The chip supports virtual COM port driver on mainstream operating systems to realize plug-and-play serial communication.
Packaging and Assembly Requirements
Both versions adopt 28-pin exposed pad QFN surface mount package with dimension 5mm×5mm. This component belongs to MSL1 moisture sensitive level, with unlimited shelf life after vacuum package opening without strict soldering time limit. CP2103-GM is supplied in bulk single unit packaging, while CP2103-GMR is standard reel packaging to match feeding of fully automatic patch equipment.
